3 former Commanders players who failed with their new team in 2023

Bobby McCain - Former Commanders DB
Bobby McCain was a necessary sacrifice for the Washington Commanders before 2023 free agency. There wasn't much money for those in power to spend with the team's ownership in flux. They needed to trim the fat and spare any unnecessary expenses. Unfortunately for the former Memphis college standout, he was deemed surplus to requirements.
It didn't take long for McCain to find a new home. He opted to remain in the NFC East after signing with the New York Giants. This was projected to be a nice addition to their secondary depth and an impact player on special teams as Brian Daboll's men looked to emulate their postseason success in 2022.
There was just something missing. It didn't take long to realize McCain was going to be an afterthought in Wink Martindale's blitz-happy system. In the 10 games he was available, he accumulated just three percent of the Giants' defensive snaps. This increased to 50% on special teams, but it was a largely anonymous contribution overall.
Considering how promising things looked for McCain with the Miami Dolphins once upon a time, it's been a steep fall from grace. Just what comes next for the cornerback-turned-safety remains to be seen, but it's going to take a huge effort this offseason if another opportunity arises.
