Commanders WR Terry McLaurin gains 100 receiving yards

Terry McLaurin is coming off the best performance of his 2023 season by a considerable margin. So why is the productive Pro Bowler gaining 100 receiving yards in Week 16 at the New York Jets a bold prediction?

Let me explain.

For all the Jets' failings on the offensive side of things, their defense is borderline elite. This bears more significance when one examines the production in the passing game.

Gang Green is conceding just 170.4 yards per game through the air. This is ranked No. 2 league-wide. They have two legitimate shutdown cornerbacks in former first-round pick Sauce Gardner and D.J. Reed. Their safety tandem assures the backend in the unlikely event their two starting cornerbacks blow assignments.

This is going to be a difficult challenge for the struggling Washington Commanders offense. Things haven't clicked in recent weeks. That won't have gone unnoticed by Robert Saleh as part of his planning for the game.

The Jets like to leave Reed and Gardner on islands given the supreme skills at their disposal. It'll be a challenge, but McLaurin's smooth route-running is more than capable of leaving its mark throughout the contest. But much will also depend on how quarterback Sam Howell responds following his benching at the Los Angeles Rams.
