Commanders could sign Zach Gentry (TE)

The Washington Commanders have been happy enough with their tight-end options despite the injury concerns lingering around Logan Thomas. They're also willing to carry through four on their roster after giving Curtis Hodges the benefit of the doubt.

Could someone with the proven all-around credentials of Zach Gentry change their mind? It's unlikely, but there's a lot to like about his potential fit on the Commanders' offensive scheme with Eric Bieniemy calling the shots.

Commanders could sign Chance Campbell (LB)

Chance Campbell was an athletic phenom in college at Ole Miss and blew up pre-draft testing. Injuries derailed any hope the former sixth-rounder had of making an impact with the Tennessee Titans last season and in a surprising move, the AFC South outfit gave up on him entirely despite the obvious upside.

This might be a shrewd piece of business by the Commanders in a position of need. Campbell might not be able to start right away, but having such an explosive figure assist on special teams would be beneficial in the meantime.

Commanders could sign Brandon Smith (LB)

Another explosive second-level defender who hasn't quite put his physical gifts to good use as yet is Brandon Smith. The former Penn State stud was a shock release by the Carolina Panthers despite flashing over the second half of 2022 under Steve Wilks, so there could be some long-term benefits to putting in a waiver claim.

Much like the situation with Campbell, there might not be much time allocated to Smith on the defensive rotation given how Jack Del Rio likes to deploy two-linebacker sets often. But his impact on special teams makes this an intriguing option.
