The Washington Commanders have some solid wide receiver options. There is a nice blend of youth and experience, but general manager Adam Peters shouldn't settle.

And the growing league buzz around Marvin Harrison Jr. is something he should monitor closely.

Harrison was tabbed as a generational prospect coming out of Ohio State before the Arizona Cardinals took him at No. 4 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft. Things haven't gone according to plan, with the wideout now firmly behind tight end Trey McBride and Michael Wilson in target share.

Commanders should keep tabs on Marvin Harrison Jr. amid growing trade buzz

This has people talking.

ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler noted that teams are watching Harrison's situation to see whether he becomes available via trade. There would be a market, and teams are even predicting the Cardinals might be willing to accept a high Day 3 pick to remove this problem.

That might seem unlikely. But if it's accurate, the Commanders have to throw their hat into the ring.

Terry McLaurin and Stefon Diggs are the top dogs. Third-round rookie Antonio Williams has also flashed promise amid his rollercoaster transition. Dyami Brown, Jaylin Lane, Luke McCaffrey, and Treylon Burks are the other pass-catchers, but the upside of acquiring Harrison is hard to ignore.

Harrison was electrifying in college. Things looked promising as a rookie, but things went completely south last season. Much of that could be attributed to Arizona's unstable quarterback situation, but some concentration issues have held him back as well.

Perhaps a change of scenery might be the spark that brings Harrison back to life. And if the reported cost of a high Day 3 pick is something the Cardinals would consider, the Commanders (and most others around the league) should jump at the chance.

Marvin Harrison Jr. looks like a great long-term fit for the Commanders

If it doesn't work out, it hasn't cost the Commanders much to find out. With McLaurin aging and several others out of contract next year, this could potentially be a long-term investment at a bargain price.

The Commanders may have bigger problems than wide receiver, and Peters has gone away from making trades this year. But the rewards far outweigh the risks here, and pairing Harrison with star quarterback Jayden Daniels is a mouthwatering proposition.

Whether it becomes reality is a different question.

Arizona has a solid young team. One could argue they are unfortunate to reside in the ultra-competitive NFC West, but giving up on Harrison without a full third season seems risky.

If they were to deal him, chances are they would like him out of the conference, just in case he finally reaches his pre-draft billing.

But should they start becoming receptive to trade offers, the Commanders have to try.

Because if Harrison uses any move as additional motivation, someone could get a steal of epic proportions.

Harrison only recently turned 24. He's got his whole career ahead of him. And even though it's not gone well overall, the son of Pro Football Hall of Fame receiver Marvin Harrison has plenty of time to turn things around.

The Cardinals would be sending the wrong message by trading him. But everyone has a price.

And if that price isn't too steep, Peters has to consider it as he continues to improve the supporting cast around Daniels.
