Fans are getting a little bit concerned by the number of key injuries the Washington Commanders are already dealing with. But it's also worth remembering there is still time before Week 1 against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Precaution at this time of year is nothing new, especially in Washington with this medical staff. But with the days getting ever closer to game-week preparations once again, the cavalry is starting to return.

Wednesday's practice, which was the final session before players get a few days off, came with a welcome sight. Specifically, edge rusher K'Lavon Chaisson was back on the field after a spell on the sidelines with a knee issue.

K'Lavon Chaisson's return to practice is massive boost to Commanders' pass-rush

Obviously, it was just in a limited capacity according to those in attendance. But the fact that Chaisson is ready to ramp things up now bodes well for his involvement at Lincoln Financial Field on September 13.

Chaisson will be eager to make up for some lost time, too.

The 2020 first-round pick out of LSU bet on himself this offseason with a one-year deal in Washington when it looked like he could get more security from the New Orleans Saints. Based on the impression made before Chaisson's injury, the pass-rusher looks more than capable of securing another payday.

And if he can prove his fitness over the coming days, defensive coordinator Daronte Jones will be confident enough to unleash him on the Eagles' offensive line.

This is especially significant when one considers big-money signing Odafe Oweh is missing with a calf problem right now. Head coach Dan Quinn confirmed that he would return to practice next week, but there are still some hurdles to overcome before he gets the all-clear for Week 1.

And that might have to be a game-time decision.

Either way, Chaisson is on the right track. The Commanders probably wanted to see how far along he is before a few days to rest. If he comes back into the building a little stronger from this reintroduction, Washington can feel confident about giving him more work next week.

And depending on Oweh's health, Chaisson could even be the primary edge threat.

Dorance Armstrong Jr. is still working his way back to full health, but he should play a prominent role on the rotation. Fifth-round rookie Joshua Josephs showed promise over the summer, and Javontae Jean-Baptiste's efforts were deserving of a roster spot.

Much more will be needed to shake Philadelphia's offensive line, but having Chaisson will provide everyone with a massive confidence boost.

And with so much at stake this season for a player who looked like he'd be out of the league once upon a time, Chaisson will be eager to hit the ground running.
