The Washington Commanders are finally getting healthier.

Wide receiver Stefon Diggs, safety Nick Cross, and cornerback Trey Amos are among the notable players who should return soon as head coach Dan Quinn's squad looks to turn around its troubling 1-3-1 start to the season.

Additionally, we can't forget linebacker Jordan Magee, a player many fans had high expectations for in his third NFL season.

Jordan Magee could help the Commanders' linebacker rotation as return nears

He's played only one game so far in 2026, but the 2024 fifth-round pick has opened his 21-day window to return from injured reserve with a strained hamstring.

What can Magee bring the Commanders this season? We're about to find out.

Magee wasn't very active in the Commanders' season-opening loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. He was the fourth inside linebacker on the depth chart following the offseason additions of Sonny Styles and Leo Chenal, with Frankie Luvu also still in the fold.

But now, the former Kansas City Chiefs star is out for the year with a fractured neck suffered against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 3.

Kain Medrano has stepped in for the time being, but hasn't made much of an impact since his pick-six against Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold. The second-year player is still developing, and Magee figures to take his slot in the rotation.

Jordan Magee must find his place to secure Commanders future

Magee is known for his speed and does a lot of things well that don't necessarily show up in the box score. But in Year 3, he'll need to start being a bit more noticeable.

In only six months this past offseason, Magee went from a player everyone expected to start to one for whom some weren't even sure would make the roster.

Now, he's back to what he was at this time a season ago: a backup with untapped promise who just needs to stay healthy.

Thanks to the selection of Styles as a franchise cornerstone, Magee is in a position where he is expendable if he doesn't perform. Washington owes him no guarantees, especially if Medrano ends up surpassing him on the depth chart.

Magee will need to pick up where his progress left off at the end of last year and make at least the occasional game-changing play. For as good as he looks on film, he's still yet to register his first career sack.

The NFL is an unforgiving league. You can be hot stuff one minute and an afterthought the next.

When Magee returns to the field, he'll have to prove he deserves to stay there.
