Jayden Daniels has a lot of exceptional qualities. Staying composed no matter the situation is right at the top.
The Washington Commanders quarterback has poise beyond his years. Daniels' flawless demeanor and ability to thrive in the biggest moments were exactly what those in power had in mind when they took him at No. 2 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft. And he is now within touching distance of being the first-ever rookie signal-caller to guide his team to a Super Bowl appearance.
There is the small matter of the Philadelphia Eagles to get through on the road before then. The NFC East adversaries have one win apiece from their meetings this season. Washington goes into the game as an underdog, but that's not bothered them in the postseason so far and is unlikely to do so again.
That is all down to the team's supreme confidence in Daniels. They'll know he won't change regardless of the advantage or deficit. He stays on an even keel and almost always produces the goods when called upon. There is nothing players, coaches, or the fans in the stands can do about it.
This will be a hostile environment for Daniels and the Commanders. Lincoln Financial Field is notoriously intimidating and the Philadelphia fanbase isn't exactly pleasant, which is putting it mildly. The former LSU standout experienced this earlier in the season on primetime, so he'll know what will be coming his way.
Jayden Daniels' elite poise and unflappable demeanor took Commanders to new heights
It wasn't his best performance in Week 11 at the same venue. However, the rib injury that held Daniels back is fully healed this time around. And momentum is everything at this stage of the knockout rounds.
Daniels isn't interested in going back and forth with the verbal abuse he'll inevitably receive from the stands. He prefers to let his actions on the field speak for themselves. That's the best way to answer back when push comes to shove.
"Nah, it wasn’t even, no back and forth. You know, they’re rightfully so talking. They’re trashing [trash talking] and I didn’t really say anything. It was just kind of just let my play do the talking."Jayden Daniels via USA Today
This short quote encapsulates the cold-blooded mindset of Daniels. He sees and hears everything but remains emotionless. If anything, it only inspires him more to finish the job and rub salt into their wounds.
That's a quality very few quarterbacks in the league possess, least of all a first-year pro still learning on the job.
Daniels' focus is on the next challenge, getting better every day, and nothing more. This relentless desire and outstanding work ethic got everyone following his lead quickly. He's willingly leaned on veterans — especially Bobby Wagner, Terry McLaurin, and Zach Ertz — but everyone goes the extra mile for their dynamic signal-caller.
Again, that's a rare trait. And the bigger the tirade coming from Eagles fans during the NFC Championship game, the more he'll shine.
Regardless of how things go, Daniels is going to be a problem for the Eagles and everyone else for a long time. And the future is incredibly bright in Washington.
Make no mistake about that.
