When it rains, it pours, as the saying goes. Everything that could've gone wrong for Washington Commanders star quarterback Jayden Daniels in his second NFL season did.

A Daniels-led Commanders squad was seemingly on the fast track to certified contender status following a surprisingly amazing run to the NFC Championship Game in 2024. He looked like the next big thing — until it all came crashing down in 2025

However, Daniels is undeterred by a bump in the road. This offseason has been about rediscovering the player that took the football world by storm as a rookie. He's coming for the throne that was his for the taking before a snakebitten sophomore campaign derailed him and Washington.

Actions speak louder than words, and Daniels knows it; he's "done talking about last year" and is focused on what lies ahead. Training camp will be the first time we see him in pads and a live-contact setting since reaggravating his dislocated left elbow this past December.

All eyes will be on Daniels when he and his Commanders comrades hit the field in Ashburn, Virginia. The 2023 Heisman Trophy winner has so much to prove in what has the makings of a pivotal 2026 for him and the organization.

Many anticipate Daniels to rebound and get Washington back on track in 2026, though all the optimism is only theoretical (for now). First and foremost, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 draft has to prove capable of staying healthy after dealing with multiple injuries. He also must find the form that made him arguably the most dynamic dual-threat in the game virtually immediately upon entering the league.

Statistically speaking, Daniels regressed as a thrower and runner in 2025. His litany of frustrating nicks and bruises was a notable factor. An underwhelming supporting cast beyond the team's top wide receiver, Terry McLaurin, who was banged up too, didn't help either.

As if it wasn't hard enough that Daniels has to answer questions about his durability (or lack thereof) and play. He has to do so while continuing to develop a rapport with new offensive coordinator David Blough. There are a lot of moving parts, which is why some strong practice showings can truly go a long way.

Daniels can simultaneously alleviate concerns and validate Commanders fans' hopes with a handful of viral clips in 11-on-11 drills.
