It's been an ongoing frustration.

Everything that could go wrong has gone wrong for the Washington Commanders this season. And the most glaring issue, above all else, was highlighted by FOX Sports analyst Greg Olsen during the team's dismal Week 16 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Commanders haven't played well enough to be even remotely competitive throughout the campaign. Head coach Dan Quinn isn't looking for excuses, but the constant stream of injury problems has played a significant role in the team's demise.

These problems came to light once again versus the Eagles. It started with rookie wide receiver Jaylin Lane, who was knocked out of the game early and later ruled out with an ankle issue. But that was just the start.

Greg Olsen couldn't believe the Commanders' injury misfortune in Week 16

Sam Cosmi hobbled off and was evaluated for a concussion. The same goes for Brandon Coleman, who was filling in for injured left tackle Laremy Tunsil. Quarterback Marcus Mariota didn't return after sustaining a hand problem, leaving third-string journeyman Josh Johnson to fill the void.

A couple more players began to feel various ailments as the clock wound down. This didn't go unnoticed by Olsen, who said every Washington player needed to be bubble-wrapped after so many went down.

This is nothing new for Commanders fans this season. Quinn's never had his preferred starting lineups on either side of the football. Injuries are commonplace around the league, but the number of influential figures who've missed considerable time for Washington this season is nothing short of astonishing.

It's been one disappointing setback after another. Luck hasn't been on the Commanders' side this season, and it's exposed an aging roster that's devoid of explosiveness and depth. That won't be going unnoticed by general manager Adam Peters, who is gearing up to implement wholesale changes to the playing personnel once the 2025 campaign concludes.

Until then, Quinn will have to try to make the best of a torrid situation over Washington's final two games. There is a quick turnaround before facing the Dallas Cowboys on Christmas Day. After that, it's a trip to Philadelphia for another go-around with the Eagles, who could rest some key starters after clinching the NFC East and a playoff berth.

The Commanders are still fighting. Quinn hasn't lost the locker room, which is why some fans aren't willing to press the panic button just yet. Injuries have been a constant thorn in their side, which is something else the coach can point to when the internal investigation into the team's disastrous campaign begins.

Olsen could see it, and fans are aware as well. But the importance of the next few months for Washington, before preparations for the 2026 campaign begin, cannot be overstated.
