One of the biggest positives around the Washington Commanders' new era centers on the rekindled connection with those who donned the famous Burgundy and Gold previously. Dan Snyder's toxic incompetence saw legendary figures turn away from the organization. Josh Harris' ownership group made restoring a sense of pride among their biggest priorities.

Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels benefitted from that more than most.

Daniels didn't come into the organization with a big ego as the No. 2 overall pick. He wanted to earn respect the right way. He wanted to take advantage of the improved culture and enhanced environment to develop further. This led the rookie to form a special bond with one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever put on a Washington uniform.

From the moment Daniels was drafted, Dan Quinn looked to Doug Williams. He said in the draft war room that he's going to play a big role in his development. This is a responsibility the senior advisor took seriously.

Williams took Daniels under his wing, helping him make a seamless transition from college to the pros. He's not around the practice field all the time, but he is on hand to provide counsel whenever the Heisman Trophy winner needs it.

That's not a bad support system to call upon.

Commanders benefitting greatly from bond between Doug Williams and Jayden Daniels

Quinn touched on the significance of this relationship recently. The head coach lauded the impact Williams has had on Daniels. He's loved watching this duo become close and blossom. Something that's benefitted the Commanders enormously throughout a campaign to remember.

"Yeah, they’re very connected and it’s nice for both of them to see this relationship grow from a distance. That’s their relationship and so only things, whether it’s quarterback wise or being in this community that Doug has a special lens for that. And I think he is the best person to share that. And you feel Doug’s support, but couldn’t be more pumped to see that relationship grow with the two of them."

Daniels and Williams hit it off immediately. There was a deep respect from the rookie's perspective. The first black quarterback to win a Super Bowl knew how long Washington had been waiting for a player like this. He did everything possible to make him feel comfortable with the expectations of an entire franchise on his shoulders.

It was a match made in heaven.

The former LSU sensation is on a phenomenal run. Daniels' poise, composure, and ability to constantly come through in the clutch have been a breath of fresh air for this once-downtrodden organization. The Commanders secured 12 wins and a thrilling Wild Card success at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Having a franchise-caliber presence under center played a significant role in this project being way ahead of schedule.

If Daniels can somehow galvanize the Commanders to another upset victory at the Detroit Lions to reach the NFC Conference championship game, this hype train will go through the roof (if it hasn't already). And there will be no prouder person watching on than Williams.
