Dan Quinn better hope latest Kliff Kingsbury coaching rumors aren't true

This would be less than ideal.

The Washington Commanders parted ways with offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury this offseason. Head coach Dan Quinn and the play-caller couldn't reach an agreement on how best to take the offense forward, and there was only one outcome after that.

Kingsbury got a head-coaching interview with the Baltimore Ravens before they went with Jesse Minter. He spoke with the Tennessee Titans about their offensive coordinator vacancy, but that went to Brian Daboll. Nobody else threw their hat into the ring, which is a far cry from the interest he received for head-coaching gigs during the 2025 hiring cycle.

Just when it looked like another opportunity may not arrive, a new development could see the former Arizona Cardinals head coach stay closer to home than Quinn would probably like.

Commanders face Kliff Kingsbury twice a season if he gets Giants' OC job

According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, Kingsbury is in the running to become the New York Giants' offensive coordinator. Others are being discussed, including Brian Callahan. The NFC East club is speaking to candidates virtually before narrowing down their shortlist for in-person interviews, and the fact that he's got so much knowledge of the division might tip the scales in his favor.

Kingsbury's development of young quarterbacks has drawn significant praise throughout his coaching career. The Giants need someone to refine Jaxson Dart's game after an encouraging rookie campaign, and Washington's ex-coordinator may have the tools. There are some intriguing options in the passing game. The G-Men also have an elite left tackle in Andrew Thomas already on the squad.

Getting the chance to work with new head coach John Harbaugh is only going to aid Kingsbury in his quest to get a second opportunity in a top job somewhere. As for the Commanders? This would be less than ideal.

Having to face Kingsbury twice a season, immediately after his departure from Washington, may be complicated. Both sides will know plenty about each other. He'll know what scheme David Blough plans to run, given he spent considerable time working with him over the last two seasons. He'll also be able to provide useful information on how to counter quarterback Jayden Daniels' skills.

Obviously, nothing has been confirmed one way or another. The Giants might prefer Callahan or someone else over Kingsbury. That would be the best-case scenario for the Commanders, who are striving to make the strides needed to bounce back from a horrific campaign.

Kingsbury has a chance. But if he doesn't do enough to convince the Giants, he might be waiting a lot longer.
