Commanders radio pundit goes nuclear on Dan Quinn in all-time rant

This was a classic.

Another capitulation from the Washington Commanders' defense was depressingly inevitable against the Detroit Lions. It was a complete surrender versus a team out to avenge their playoff loss last season, and any slim hope head coach Dan Quinn's squad had of making it back into the postseason is now gone.

Joe Whitt Jr., the Commanders' much-maligned defensive coordinator, switched from the booth to the sidelines to call plays, staying in close contact with Quinn and conversing with his players. The move didn't pay off, and serious questions are now being asked about how much longer things will carry on as they are.

The players are giving up slowly. Whatever Whitt has tried to turn the tide hasn't worked, and one Commanders radio pundit launched a tirade on Quinn for letting things get this far.

Radio pundit blasts Dan Quinn for losing grip on the Commanders

Lynnell Willingham from 106.7 The Fan blasted Quinn for losing his grip on Washington's defense. The commentator outlined the poor discipline and evaporating principles causing their demise. He even went as far as to call the Commanders soft.

"Our defense sucks. The head coach is a defensive-minded guy, and he won't touch the defense. I don't know if he's trying to free himself of blame, but where are the principles that we stand on? Linebackers are literally retreating as pulling guards are coming. Javon Kinlaw hits a referee, and he gets to stay in the game. Where is your coaching? Where are the rules? I would have told him to take his jersey off. Where's the respectability? You've played 10 games this year, and you've been totally non-competitive in five of them. And we've got guys fighting and fussing after the whistle, it's the softest s--- I've ever seen in my life."

It was a postgame rant when emotions were running high, but it's also hard to argue with anything he said.

The Commanders have lost their way. They are undisciplined, unprepared, and coming completely unglued defensively. The players either aren't listening or aren't talented enough to do their jobs. It's likely a combination of both, so it's not hard to see why things have spiraled out of control.

Quinn stated that he will assess where things stand and where the Commanders go from here during their bye week. Looking at how the Miami Dolphins tore apart the Buffalo Bills' defense in Week 10, it could be another long afternoon in Spain before their extended rest period unless significant improvements arrive.

There are growing doubts about how Quinn is handling matters right now. He respects Whitt as a coach and friend, but loyalty can be costly in the NFL. And reading the riot act to his players would be a good place to start.

All of Washington's hard work last season is being undone. Quinn needs to take charge and do what's required, or his own status will be on the line at some stage.
