Adam Peters gained a lot of good graces among Washington Commanders fans after spearheading a remarkable franchise rejuvenation in 2024. But after things went horribly wrong this time around, pressure is inevitably growing.
Nobody is calling for Peters' head; far from it. Fans remain confident that Washington has the right man in charge of the football operation. At the same time, they also know that a complete rethink of the team's strategy is required for a more sustainable future.
Peters was correct to push his chips into the middle. There is a desperate need to maximize quarterback Jayden Daniels' rookie contract before it potentially gets much more expensive to keep him around. He felt Washington's window was open, but injuries, older players aging terribly, and younger players not progressing have been the catalysts behind their demise.
Commanders analyst wants more home-run hits from Adam Peters in 2026
Nobody is pressing the panic button yet, but Lynnell Willingham of 106.7 The Fan believes Peters needs to start hitting more on his roster acquisitions. Anything less, and the Commanders are going to have a real problem.
"My beloved football team that could do no right over my entire lifetime landed the most highly sought-after talent evaluator on the market, holy cow. And now, looking at it, a year and a half into it, there are some decisions that feel redundant. He's hit a bunch of singles. I need some doubles, some triples, and some homers."Lynnell Willingham

Peters found his franchise quarterback. His bold trade for Laremy Tunsil solidified the left tackle position. But the defense is weak across the board, and the offense also has questions to answer with underperforming draft picks and pending free agents in the coming months.
The Commanders will have a plan on how best to attack the offseason, which is Peters' third at the helm. They only have six selections in the 2026 NFL Draft — two of which are in the first four rounds. However, the front-office leader should have north of $100 million in available salary-cap space to extend those deserving and find the right veteran quality in free agency to turn the tide.
There is a lot of hard work ahead. Not every move is going to come off; that's almost impossible in the NFL. But if Peters can address critical issues without jeopardizing his long-term growth plans, Washington will be in a good spot to make the desired on-field progress after a campaign to forget.
Easier said than done, obviously. But don't write Peters off just yet.
