The Washington Commanders have reportedly re-signed wide receiver Treylon Burks to a one-year contract extension with a max value of $4 million. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport was first on the news.

Washington is in the process of revamping it's offense and evidently sees Burks as a piece of the puzzle. He “impressed in [his] limited time” with the Commanders this past season, per Rapoport. The 2022 first-round pick joined the club in October and has already locked himself into the club’s 2026 plans.

While Burks didn't necessarily light up the box score upon landing in Washington, he looked the part of a viable depth option, if nothing else. His combination of age (turns 26 on March 23) and draft pedigree also make him an low-risk flier with meaningful upside.

Burks stepped into a banged-up Commanders receiver room and immediately assumed a decent workload. The former Arkansas standout caught 10 of 22 for 130 yards and a touchdown across eight contests (three starts) in 2025. He logged a 60 percent offensive snap share rate, almost instantly surpassing veteran Chris Moore and fourth-round rookie Jaylin Lane on the depth chart.

It shouldn't be overlooked that the Commanders were motivated enough to get a deal done with Burks before free agency. They could've let him test the waters to see what offers might be out there, but didnt. This alone highlights their belief that his glimpses of greatness aren’t just sustainable; it’s a vote of confidence that he can keep improving.

Now, Burks and the Commanders hope to see him catching more passes from the team's young franchise quarterback, Jayden Daniels. They barely got chance to play together (two games, to be exact) because the latter was in and out of the lineup with injuries. The former sticking in Washington allows them to make up for lost time and build their connection.

With Burks retained, the attention suddenly turns to the other Commanders wideouts set to become available in the coming days. Moore, Noah Brown and one-time All-Pro Deebo Samuel are all set to hit the open market on March 11.
