Commanders inactives list for Week 12 game against Cowboys
By Dean Jones
The Washington Commanders desperately needed a short break on their mini-bye following defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday Night Football. They were weary and dealing with some bumps after a grueling campaign so far. With a Week 14 bye upcoming, it should ensure they are fresh heading into the business end of the season.
Dan Quinn was excited to get his players into a proper week's worth of practice after condensing everything before their trip to Lincoln Financial Field. There was a fresh energy around the squad with very few causes for concern on the health front. This will only help the team's chances of bouncing back with a victory over the Dallas Cowboys at Northwest Stadium.
Jayden Daniels looks more like his old self after shaking off a rib injury. Rookie third-round left tackle Brandon Coleman was also a full participant every day in practice, which is a step in the right direction considering he'll be facing a stern test versus the Cowboys.
There are some concerns. Stud cornerback Marshon Lattimore remains out with a hamstring issue. Quinn is pleased with his progress and doesn't think it'll be too much longer before he's involved, but this contest came too soon.
The Commanders should be getting veteran kicker Austin Seibert back after he missed the last two contests. Seventh-round rookie Javontae Jean-Baptiste is listed as questionable after coming off injured reserve following his ankle complication. Linebacker and special teams ace Nick Bellore is the only other Washington player with a designation coming into the clash.
Aside from that, it's all systems go. This presented some selection conundrums for Quinn and his staff. But in all honesty, it's a good problem to have at this stage of the campaign.
Things aren't as promising for the Cowboys. They are without a plethora of established stars. With Zack Martin and Trevon Diggs being ruled out on Saturday, it means Dallas' top five salary-cap hits in 2024 will be unavailable in Week 12.
This - coupled with the Cowboys' torrid run of recent results - is a big reason why the Commanders are heavily favored. Whether they can capitalize on this newfound vulnerability in Dallas remains to be seen, but it would be bitterly disappointing if they didn't.
