Adam Peters adopted an aggressive attitude to his roster construction once the Washington Commanders were confirmed to be further along than originally projected. One former pro turned analyst fanned the flames regarding another bombshell trade for an All-Pro-caliber performer.
It seems like the Miami Dolphins and cornerback Jalen Ramsey will be going their separate ways this offseason. The AFC East club paid him a $4 million roster bonus, but reports suggest he's on the trade block. Whether a willing suitor comes forward remains to be seen, but his proven credentials should see a few calls arrive.
Ramsey remains an outstanding coverage presence. He's also a stout force against the run and boasts the relentless commitment that should fit well into Dan Quinn's culture shift in Washington. Much will depend on the compensation attached, and there's also the small matter of the seven-time Pro Bowler's contract to factor into the equation.
James Jones urges Commanders to go for broke with Jalen Ramsey trade
This seems highly unlikely, all things considered. Even so, ex-cornerback James Jones from FOX Sports thought the Commanders should swing for the fences by acquiring Ramsey. Something he believes could give them a real chance of dethroning the Philadelphia Eagles in 2025.
"Jalen Ramsey is still an elite corner in the National Football League. There's one team I would love to see him go to. And if you're all-in on a rookie contract, go all in. And that's the Washington Commanders. Go over there and put him on the other side of [Marshon] Lattimore. You've got a young quarterback in Jayden Daniels under a rookie contract, go try to compete. Try to get it right now. Put Jalen Ramsey out there. That's two good ones you've got to go through twice a year in Philly."James Jones

Acquiring Ramsey would no doubt give Washington's hopes of winning the Super Bowl a significant boost. Unfortunately, this seems like a bridge too far right now.
The Commanders shelled out significant capital to acquire Marshon Lattimore, Deebo Samuel Sr., and Laremy Tunsil in recent months. They have four capable performers in the cornerback room as things stand. Ramsey might be an upgrade on all of them, but sacrificing more capital, coupled with another high-priced veteran contract, on a potential area of strength doesn't seem feasible.
Jones is right about one thing. The Commanders are going all-in to maximize Jayden Daniels' rookie contract. Peters diverted from his original plan seamlessly, striking with conviction to get high-caliber players into the fold who can help them win right now. Windows like this don't come along every day. Capitalizing on it is crucial.
It would be a bombshell of epic proportions if the Commanders landed Ramsey. This has nothing to do with the player's talent, which remains unquestioned. It's more a case of Washington's few assets that they could give up, and the financial ramifications of taking on his contract.
Peters could find ways around this if he believes Ramsey can help the Commanders get over the hump. But the more realistic scenario centers on Washington going into the remaining veteran free-agent pool or the 2025 NFL Draft for another cornerback option.
Nothing should be completely ruled out, but the Commanders look spent regarding any more trade incomings. And hopefully, they can all make lasting contributions when the 2025 campaign arrives.
