Commanders hearing renewed push for WR move that could unravel months of progress

Are we seriously doing this again?

The Washington Commanders could still use some help at wide receiver, even after their third-round selection of Clemson's Antonio Williams during the 2026 NFL Draft.

Many believe Brandon Aiyuk is on the way. However, the San Francisco 49ers are pettily refusing to release him even though everybody knows they ultimately will.

Washington has been linked to Aiyuk because of his desire to team up with his former Arizona State teammate, Jayden Daniels. However, if patience wears thin, general manager Adam Peters may need to consider other options.

There's one veteran wideout in particular who is available, after his former team released him earlier this spring. But despite the idea being thrown out there once again, Washington needs to stay as far away as possible.

Commanders' pundit floats the Stefon Diggs homecoming ship that sailed years ago

Between Stefon Diggs and NBA superstar Kevin Durant, it's hard to tell which locally raised player has been more often the subject of unrealistic rumors involving D.C.'s teams. The Team 980's Kevin Sheehan is the latest to bring up the possibility of adding the four-time Pro Bowler.

"Yes, he can be a pain in the a--. But nobody is readier on game day and gives you everything he has like he does. The thing about Stefon Diggs that is that deep down, he has a big-time heart and means well."

Sheehan makes a fair argument. Even so, there needs to be a "Do Not Touch" sign attached to Diggs' back wherever he goes.

For starters, he is currently embroiled in a felony lawsuit for alleged assault and strangulation. That means any team that signs him might face a lengthy league suspension, which makes a short-term option like Diggs nothing short of useless.

The fact that Diggs eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards on a New England Patriots team that reached the Super Bowl last year and was still released speaks volumes. Teams don't want to deal with his drama, which has been known to surface in the locker room, on the sidelines, and off the field.

Should Diggs come to Washington, he would be Jayden Daniels' No. 2 receiver. If he grew frustrated with his usage in Buffalo, where he had uncontested alpha status catching balls from Josh Allen, he sure won't like playing second fiddle to Terry McLaurin.

The Diggs idea was great back when he was originally on the outs with the Minnesota Vikings. Now? No, thank you.
