The Washington Commanders are looking to get their own house in order before the 2026 season arrives. But general manager Adam Peters will no doubt keep a close eye on developments in the NFC East along the way, to see what is unfolding and what his team is dealing with.
Drama has been in short supply when it comes to the Commanders. They are going under the radar compared to others in the division, which is just fine with head coach Dan Quinn. They want their football to do the talking after such a disappointing 2025 campaign. And if the widespread changes bear fruit, they have a chance to bounce back at the first time of asking.
Things are more turbulent elsewhere across the NFC East. The shocking return of veteran wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to the New York Giants was another prime example.
Commanders have nothing to worry about after Odell Beckham makes Giants return
Beckham hinted at a comeback after playing in the Fanatics Flag Football Classic. The Giants were his first team, and he's also worked with head coach John Harbaugh during their time together on the Baltimore Ravens. The stars aligned, and after a successful workout, an agreement was reached.
This may have struck fear into the Commanders once upon a time. That is not the case anymore.
The former LSU standout hasn't played since the 2024 season. Beckham gained 55 receiving yards in nine games for the Miami Dolphins and hasn't been seen since. His powers have waned since the 2019 campaign, and he's dealt with some significant injury problems. Just what he'll be able to offer the Giants at this stage of his career is anyone's guess, but Harbaugh is giving him a shot.
Nobody will be shaking with fear about going up against this version of Beckham. He might be nothing more than a complementary piece. But with Wan'Dale Robinson gone and Malik Nabers suffering complications with his knee injury, there is also an opening if he impresses enough over the summer.
Catching passes in a flag football game is fun. Doing the same in the NFL is something else entirely. The last time Beckham did that with any frequency was in 2023, and even then, it was only for 565 receiving yards and three touchdowns with the Ravens.
It's a signing full of nostalgia and emotion. But for the Commanders? Beckham doesn't have the juice to keep defensive coordinator Daronte Jones up at night anymore.
It's that simple, really.
