Things between star wide receiver George Pickens and the Dallas Cowboys have seemingly reached a boiling point. That's music to Washington Commanders fans' ears.
ESPN's Adam Schefter didn't mince his words during a recent appearance on The Pat McAfee Show. He outright said Pickens, who's set to play on the franchise in 2026, "wants a long-term contract" or "would like a trade" (or both). Of course, nothing is imminent yet, but this type of Cowboys drama will always put a smile on folks in Washington's faces.
Rivalries know no bounds, especially when it comes to Commanders and Cowboys. These two heated NFC East foes will always prey on their respective downfalls anytime the other team is facing turmoil, like Dallas' drama with Pickens.
Commanders fans are getting a kick out of the Cowboys-George Pickens standoff
Just a handful of days ago, Pickens was reportedly set to sign the one-year tender offer the Cowboys slapped on him in February. Suddenly, he's given the club an ultimatum. Talk about a wild turn of events for Dallas — and an ideal development for the Commanders.
Pickens wasn't there for the start of the Cowboys' 2026 offseason workout program (h/t Joseph Hoyt of the Dallas Morning News). Attendance is voluntary at this stage, but it's the latest sign that the two sides aren't seeing eye to eye on a new deal. There's still plenty of time to settle their differences, though the Washington faithful wouldn't mind seeing this standstill drag out for as long as possible.
Or better yet, watch the situation escalate to the extent that Pickens forces his way out of Dallas and the division. Heck, why stop there right? Root for him to get rerouted from the conference entirely.
To this point, the Cowboys have been "very clear" that they aren't going to give Pickens the payday he's seeking, per Schefter. It will be fascinating to see who, if anyone, blinks first. Organized team activities (OTAs) and mandatory minicamp begin in June, marking a potential rubber-meets-road moment, assuming the matter isn't resolved before then.
Pickens set career-highs across the board en route to his first career All-Pro nod with the Cowboys in 2025. He caught 93 passes for 1,429 yards and nine touchdowns. Commanders supporters are hoping they won't have to see him twice annually anymore.
