This was intriguing.

The Washington Commanders' desire to add more firepower for quarterback Jayden Daniels isn't a secret. Even though general manager Adam Peters has plenty of salary-cap space left for additional moves from the veteran pool, the 2026 NFL Draft will rightfully take priority beforehand.

This is a pretty good class for wide receivers. There are probably three in contention to be taken in the top 10. Good value could be had on Day 2 or even a bit later. Peters only has six picks, but he is leaving no stone unturned during his comprehensive pre-draft assessments before the selection event begins.

Every base is being covered. Peters is gathering as much information as possible to be ready for anything. And he has been eager to examine the credentials of several top-end wideouts in greater detail.

Commanders hosted Chris Brazzell II on a pre-draft visit, but only one scenario would make him an ooption

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Commanders added Tennessee pass-catcher Chris Brazzell II to the long list of receivers who've attended pre-draft visits with Washington. The physically imposing prospect has become a fast-riser in league circles throughout the assessment phase, with many expecting him to be a second-round selection when it's all said and done.

Of course, the Commanders don't have a second-round selection right now. They pick at No. 7 and not again until No. 71. Brazzell isn't going to last that long, so this visit is likely setting the table in case Washington gets a viable trade offer.

Brazzell came of age for the Volunteers last season, bringing in 62 receptions for 1,017 receiving yards and nine touchdowns. He is a mismatch waiting to happen at 6-foot-4 with the athleticism to match. The wideout manipulates coverage effectively, has the speed to take the top off defenses, and is surprisingly fluid for a man his size. And when he gets the chance in contested catch situations, he typically makes things happen.

If Brazzell can become more consistent as a catcher and a little more explosive out of his route stems, he's got Day 1 starter potential in the pros. But from Washington's perspective, this only becomes a realistic option with a move back from No. 7 for a package that includes a second-round selection this year.

Peters is right to examine all possible options. He won't want to be caught short-handed in the event that a trade offer he cannot pass up arrives. Brazzell has the talent, and he certainly offers something a little different from what Washington already has right now.

It's another for the shortlist. And if Peters pulls the trigger on a trade, the possibility becomes much more feasible.
