Adam Peters has a monumental job on his hands this offseason. The Washington Commanders have holes across the roster, and the pressure is on to improve after the club won just five games in 2025. Anything less will result in seats getting extremely warm.
Peters only has six draft selections at his disposal. Only two of those are in the first four rounds. That makes it crucial to utilize every available resource in free agency, and the front-office leader has cash to spend.
There are needs everywhere. There are also two new coordinators in place. But even though the Commanders have a plethora of needs, Peters must keep putting the pieces around star quarterback Jayden Daniels.
And there is one prized free agent who could be within reach.
Commanders named as perfect landing spot for home-run hitter Alec Pierce
Zachary Perelus from CBS Sports placed Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce as the sixth-best free agent set to hit the open market. He also thought the Commanders represented the perfect landing spot, giving Daniels a supreme deep threat capable of stretching the field and making explosive plays consistently.
"Coach Dan Quinn and GM Adam Peters both expressed a desire to get younger and faster this offseason. [Alec] Pierce is young (25) and fast: He's led the NFL in yards per catch in consecutive seasons, and he became the first player since A.J. Brown in 2019 to go over 1,000 yards on at least 20 yards per catch."Zachary Perelus
Pierce gained more than 1,000 receiving yards this season off just 43 receptions. Despite Colts quarterback Daniel Jones suffering a torn Achilles tendon, completely spiraling their playoff ambitions, his skill set is something teams around the league will covet if Indianapolis decides not to re-sign him.
Daniels loves to push the football downfield. Aside from Terry McLaurin, no one has shown the consistency needed to maximize this supreme gift. Adding Pierce would change all that in an instant, but it wouldn't be cheap after his breakout campaign.
According to Spotrac, the former Cincinnati Bearcat is projected to secure a four-year, $80.99 million deal, averaging around $20.24 million per season. That seems like a lot, but it's the going rate for productive pass-catchers around the league these days. And unlike the saga with Terry McLaurin last summer, he's only 25 with his prime ahead.
The Commanders need a home run hitter to pair with McLaurin. Treylon Burks flashed enough promise to get another short-term deal, but that won't be enough. Adding Pierce would be the statement of intent Washington is looking for under new offensive coordinator David Blough, and there would be nobody happier than Daniels if this scenario came to fruition.
Time will tell...
