Commanders at NY Giants early odds and prediction for Week 9
By Dean Jones
Fans are still buzzing about the Washington Commanders pulling off a miracle to beat the Chicago Bears as time expired in Week 8. But for head coach Dan Quinn and his players, attention has already turned to the next challenge.
The Commanders cannot let the Hail Mary become their crowning moment in 2024. They must use this as a springboard to greater success as the campaign progresses. That's the message Quinn and his staff will be looking to install this week as Washington gears up for another divisional battle.
Sitting at 6-2 atop the NFC East is nothing short of astonishing at this stage. Most people expected the Commanders to improve. Almost nobody anticipated such a remarkable turnaround in Year 1 of their impressive rebuild.
Everyone believes anything is possible heading into their Week 9 game at the New York Giants. These teams are going in different directions so far this season, but the Commanders cannot take them lightly by any stretch of the imagination. It's also worth remembering that MetLife Stadium hasn't been the best hunting ground for Washington in recent years, so nothing but full focus and executing effectively will do.
Can the Commanders' fairytale run continue by securing a season sweep over the Giants? Or will Brian Daboll's men escape their slump by halting Washington's momentum surge?

Commanders at NY Giants prediction for Week 9
This is a game the Commanders should win. Had they turned countless red-zone opportunities into touchdowns during their previous meeting this season in Week 2, it would have been a blowout. They look a lot more polished now.
Much will depend on Jayden Daniels' health. The rookie quarterback sensation showed remarkable toughness to play through a rib injury against the Bears. The Commanders will likely take it easy with their prized possession this week, but it would be a surprise if he didn't suit up.
The more concerning complication centers on the left tackle position. Brandon Coleman is still navigating his way through the NFL's concussion protocol. Veteran blindside enforcer Cornelius Lucas was seen in a walking boot after getting hurt in Week 8. If neither can go, that leaves Trent Scott manning the edge versus a formidable Giants pass rush featuring Brian Burns and Kayvon Thibodeaux.
- Prediction: Commanders win
There's also the presence of nose tackle Dexter Lawrence II to counteract. However, with New York's offensive complications and Washington's improving defense, Quinn's men should have enough to dispose of the Giants and propel themselves to 7-2 at the midway point.
