Adam Peters and his staff have done their investigations. They're finalizing their plans and solidifying the all-important board ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft. And it's a big one for the Washington Commanders.

Peters was aggressive in the trade market this offseason, striking deals to acquire wide receiver Deebo Samuel Sr. and left tackle Laremy Tunsil. The Commanders are in win-now mode with a dire need to maximize Jayden Daniels' rookie contract. That's a big positive, but it's severely depleted his draft wealth along the way.

The Commanders have just five picks as things stand. That decreases the margin for error, but Peters can rectify this by moving back if the situation presents itself. Washington was right to push its chips into the middle, so a good draft could give head coach Dan Quinn all he needs for another deep postseason run next time around.

This is an exciting time for fans. There was nervous apprehension this time last year with so many unknowns and so many holes to fill. These feelings have been replaced by complete confidence in Peters and the project after the Commanders went on a phenomenal run to the NFC Championship game in 2024.

Using the NFL Mock Draft database simulator, we took a look at how the Commanders could approach matters in our penultimate 2025 mock draft of this cycle.

Commanders trade down twice in seven-round 2025 NFL mock draft

Commanders draft Donovan Ezeiruaku

  • Edge Rusher | Boston College Eagles
  • Round No. 2 | Pick No. 34

Adam Peters would probably like to trade down from No. 29 overall. The Washington Commanders aren't blessed with much in the way of draft resources right now. Navigating a shift down the pecking order could be the best possible route to strengthening the roster.

Peters also proved during last season's draft that he has no trouble striking deals with division rivals if he feels like it's the right thing to do. The Commanders do the same again in this scenario, letting the New York Giants move up for quarterback Tyler Shough.

The Commanders spent their high-end second-round pick at No. 34 overall on a prospect who could go much higher when it's all said and done. Donovan Ezeiruaku might not be the biggest edge rusher, but he's got the explosiveness, bend, and versatility that look tailor-made for Dan Quinn's schematic concepts.

Ezeiruaku could be moved around to create mismatches. The Boston College prospect complements what the Commanders already have. He'd add an extra level of dynamism that was sorely lacking during the previous campaign, which represents a win-win scenario in no uncertain terms.

Whether it becomes reality or not is another matter.
