The Washington Commanders cannot afford any more slip-ups to meet some rising expectations. Dan Quinn's squad is on a three-game losing slump and has seen their playoff cushion diminish to almost nothing. This makes for a high-stakes situation in Week 13 against the Tennessee Titans.
Quinn knows his team is in an increasingly precarious situation regarding their postseason aspirations. Nobody expected them to make the knockout stages in Year 1 of this comprehensive rebuild led by general manager Adam Peters. That does not detract from what a disappointment it would be following a sensational start to the campaign.
Tennessee won't make things easy that's for sure. They played with a newfound sense of freedom to beat the Houston Texans last time out. Second-year quarterback Will Levis is responding positively to early adversity. They also have a top-notch defense spearheaded by ferocious lineman Jeffery Simmons capable of making things difficult for anybody.
Getting off to a positive start is crucial. One of the biggest flaws surrounding Washington's recent slump centers on an inability to get themselves into an early rhythm. That cannot continue against the Titans, who are more than able to capitalize on uncertainty and cause another upset.
Quinn must preach professionalism and conviction during his pre-game message. The Commanders need everyone firing on all cylinders in pursuit of winning before their bye week. If not, it will leave more questions than answers about their short-term aspirations down the stretch.
Can the Commanders end their concerning run of recent results and send fans home happy? Or will the Titans build further momentum with nothing to play for other than pride?
