Commanders could trade for Brian Thomas Jr.

If one name is being linked to the Washington Commanders more than any other before the 2026 trade deadline, it's Brian Thomas Jr. The Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver has fallen out of favor, and Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk was the latest to suggest Adam Peters has shown interest.

Whether the Commanders would be willing to part ways with what the Jaguars want in return is another matter.

Rumors suggest the Jaguars are looking for a second-round pick, which seems unrealistic. They have no problem keeping Thomas to see if his form returns, but it's also clear the wideout would benefit from a fresh start.

And given his previous connection to Jayden Daniels from their time together at LSU, it's not hard to see why Thomas would jump at the chance to join Washington.

The Commanders need to think about life without Terry McLaurin and Stefon Diggs next year. Thomas has the upside, but much would depend on the compensation.

Commanders could trade for Jackson Powers-Johnson

The Commanders could use some help along their offensive line. That is not breaking news, and the absence of five-time Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil has been sorely felt through the first seven games.

Brandon Coleman is struggling to find consistency on the edge and looks better suited to the interior. Chris Paul has been sluggish at left guard, with procedural issues and poor performances blighting his chances of getting another deal in 2027.

Couple this with the center problems after placing too much faith in Nick Allegretti, and Peters may look to address this need before the deadline.

Teams don't tend to give away productive linemen at this time of year. But with the relationship between Jackson Powers-Johnson and the Las Vegas Raiders souring, it may be worth making a call.

Powers-Johnson was a highly productive center at Oregon, and he can play anywhere along the interior. This would also be cost-effective, so it wouldn't hurt to make an inquiry.

Commanders couild trade for Jonathan Taylor

As mentioned previously, the Commanders don't have an elite rushing attack. Adam Peters has been content to roll with a committee approach so far, but with Jeremy McNichols reportedly suffering a serious foot injury, head coach Dan Quinn acknowledged they need more.

With Jacory Croskey-Merritt also on injured reserve, this is a big problem. Finding a short-term stopgap in free agency or plucking someone off another practice squad seems the most realistic route, but if Peters wants to be a little bolder, examining what it would cost to get Jonathan Taylor from the Indianapolis Colts would be a game-changer in no uncertain terms.

Taylor is reportedly on the trade block as the Colts enter a full-scale rebuild. Interest is supposedly high, and they could demand compensation similar to what the San Francisco 49ers paid the Carolina Panthers for Christian McCaffrey.

That might be off-putting for the Commanders. But placing Taylor alongside Jayden Daniels in the backfield has mouth-watering potential.
