Commanders could sign Taylor Rapp
Despite most fans and analysts believing that a complete revamp of the safety room was coming this offseason, general manager Adam Peters did very little to enhance the defensive back end.
Only Nick Cross was signed in free agency. The Washington Commanders didn't draft one after going with Sonny Styles over Caleb Downs at No. 7. This represents a gamble of epic proportions that could legitimately go either way.
Peters is clearly not willing to give up on players like Quan Martin, Will Harris, Percy Butler, and Tyler Owens. But if they cannot repay this faith, serious questions will be asked about why more wasn't done.
There is still time to bring another veteran into the franchise. Taylor Rapp is still sitting on the market after his release from the Buffalo Bills just before free agency. Though he featured just six times last season due to a knee injury, he is well worth considering if the medical reports are positive.
Commanders could sign Kenny Moore II
It always looked like Kenny Moore II and the Indianapolis Colts would end their nine-year relationship this offseason. The AFC South club gave him permission to trade, but with teams knowing what would come next, no willing suitor was willing to part ways with draft capital to jump the queue.
Inevitably, the Colts released Moore recently. He's been a highly productive cornerback throughout his career, emerging from an undrafted free agent to become a Pro Bowler. While his coverage capabilities dipped slightly last season, the Valdosta State product remains one of the league's most prolific corners against the run.
That carries a ton of weight, so Moore might not be waiting much longer before finding a new home. He's undersized at 5-foot-9, which wouldn't be ideal alongside Mike Sainristil and Amik Robertson, but his previous production for the best part of a decade means it would be foolish to completely dismiss.
Commanders could re-sign Deebo Samuel Sr.
The Commanders got some good returns from the fifth-round pick they gave to the San Francisco 49ers for Deebo Samuel Sr. last season. As all around the wide receiver crumbled due to injury and inconsistency, he remained a constant, providing assured production and the right attitude throughout.
That hasn't come with a new deal from the Commanders as yet. Washington either didn't want to meet his contract demands or wanted to see what they have in their young pass-catchers behind Terry McLaurin. However, given the need to make significant improvements next season, revisiting this couldn't be ruled out.
Samuel isn't the All-Pro-caliber performer of old. He could be a nice complementary piece. He's got chemistry with Jayden Daniels and Terry McLaurin, although the trio didn't play much together last season. If he is willing to accept a one-year deal, the Commanders should be receptive. And this would not prevent Brandon Aiyuk from joining the ranks at some stage.
