There was more excitement than usual on Day 8 of Washington Commanders training camp, the seventh session with fans or media in attendance. And everyone knew why.

The wide receiver donned the Commanders' colors he's been so desperate for after signing a one-year deal that could be worth up to $12 million. Diggs's ambition, flamboyance, and aura were a big hit right away. Everyone welcomed him with open arms, with head coach Dan Quinn beaming about the player's arrival before practice.
Diggs now faces a crash course in the scheme, but he's experienced enough to handle David Blough's demands. The Commanders have an established locker room culture that the wideout wants to add to. And if everything goes as those in power hope, the Maryland product promises to be a significant addition to the ranks.
As for the rest of Washington's roster? It's about putting in the work in readiness for the new campaign. Joint practices and the preseason are almost upon us, and the battle for roster spots is heating up before final cuts are due.

Tyler Owens - Commanders DB
It might only be training camp right now, but there are clear indications that Daronte Jones is trying to find ways to get Tyler Owens onto the field. The defensive coordinator is looking to truly assess the versatile weapon, and it's bringing a positive response.
Owens has lined up as an off-ball linebacker, a big nickel cornerback in the slot, inside linebacker, and free safety throughout camp. Having numerous strings to his bow is only going to enhance his chances of making the roster again, and he's always had the athleticism to be more impactful.
Putting it together consistently remains the big unknown with Owens. He's got the tools, so this is all about nurturing them effectively. Much will depend on how the former Texas Tech prospect performs in the preseason, but Jones obviously sees something in him that could potentially become something more.
It's a big summer for Owens. He's in a contract year, and his speed remains a dependable asset on special teams. But with other options capable of filling this void, he must keep up this positive momentum to justify sticking around for a fourth campaign in Washington.
But if Jones' usage of the player is any indication, Owens has a chance.
