Commanders could sign Fabian Moreau
This one should be no stranger to fans. Fabian Moreau was a third-round pick from the now-Washington Commanders in 2017. He's managed to carve out a decent career for himself, overcoming some troubling injuries to stick around as a rotational asset.
Moreau spent the last two seasons working on his craft with Daronte Jones on the Minnesota Vikings. The progress was notable, especially this season, when called upon.
He gave up just nine completions from 20 targets and a measly 54.3 passer rating when targeted. Moreau's length and fluidity could be something the Commanders examine in greater detail, even though he will be 32 later this year.
Aging veterans are something the Commanders are probably looking to avoid this offseason. However, filling out the roster with dependable players like Moreau couldn't be dismissed entirely if Jones gives it the green light.
Commanders could sign Eric Kendricks
Adding a linebacker with coverage credentials should be high on the Commanders' list of priorities. Frankie Luvu and Jordan Magee can handle this responsibility, but it's not their biggest strength. And if Washington wants Daronte Jones to make an instant success of this opportunity, more is required at the defensive second level.
That need becomes more critical if legendary linebacker Bobby Wagner leaves in free agency or retires. Eric Kendricks might be another veteran at the tail-end of his career, but he showed there could be plenty of life left in the tank after joining the San Francisco 49ers late in the campaign.
This would be nothing more than a last resort. The Commanders should be reluctant to add another mid-30s linebacker to replace Wagner, no matter how familiar Kendricks would be with Jones's schematic concepts. At the same time, it's not a terrible fallback insurance policy.
Commanders could sign Jalen Redmond
Jalen Redmond was one of the biggest surprise packages for the Minnesota Vikings this season. The defensive lineman got his chance in the starting lineup and seized it with both hands, providing the urgency and physicality that immediately became a revelation in Brian Flores' system.
Redmond gained six sacks and 35 pressures. His 39 run stops ranked fifth league-wide. He also played the sixth-most snaps of any interior defensive lineman in the league, which is a testament to how valuable he became for the Vikings in an otherwise underwhelming season.
This is a miraculous turnaround for Redmond, who entered the league as an undrafted free agent and didn't make the Carolina Panthers' roster initially. The Vikings saw something in him, and their gamble paid off handsomely.
Adding Redmond would be an outstanding move. However, he's an exclusive rights free agent, so it doesn't seem like the Vikings will let him test the market.
