The Washington Commanders didn't have many draft picks, especially in the first four rounds. General manager Adam Peters used them wisely, which added to an impressive offseason on the recruitment front.

There is still some hard work ahead. The Commanders are not the finished article by any stretch, but there is still plenty of spare cash to spend if the right veterans become available. Washington is under pressure to bounce back next season, so Peters was right to overhaul the playing personnel with ruthless conviction in pursuit of achieving this objective.

Nobody, including those still under contract, should have expected anything less.

The Commanders won just five contests in 2025, one year after stunning the league en route to the NFC Championship game. Peters' margin for error decreased, and head coach Dan Quinn will be on the hot seat without enhancements. The stakes have been raised, and the aggressive moves this offseason reflect it.

Things look more promising now. The Commanders' roster looks younger and more dynamic with better balance. Obviously, the new recruits need to mesh effectively both on and off the field, but there is a growing sense that Peters found the right characters to get this ambitious project back on track.

That may not be great news for everybody. With this in mind, here are seven Commanders players suddenly cast as sidekicks following Peters' roster shakeup.

Ben Sinnott - Commanders TE

The Washington Commanders thought Ben Sinnott could fill the void left by Zach Ertz when he eventually departed the franchise. Two years into his professional career, that ceiling hasn't come close to being reached.

Sinnott was an afterthought once again last season. The No. 53 overall selection in the 2024 NFL Draft was expected to be a focal point when Ertz suffered a torn ACL against the Minnesota Vikings, but it didn't come to fruition. New offensive coordinator David Blough believes there is a lot of hard work ahead for the player, and the Commanders were not going to wait around on the off chance everything came together.

The Commanders spent decent money on Chig Okonkwo in free agency. He'll be the new pass-catching tight end, with his athleticism and ability to generate yards after the catch bringing significant intrigue. With John Bates regarded as one of the league's best blocking tight ends, Sinnott is set for another year on the fringes unless there is a meteoric surge forward.

Perhaps a move to a more traditional H-back role will be beneficial. Either way, Sinnott is in danger of getting left behind.
