Nick Allegretti - Commanders OL

The Washington Commanders have had to make drastic alterations to their offensive line this season. Things look more stable now, thanks to the return of Sam Cosmi following a lengthy absence. But that only pushed Nick Allegretti further down the pecking order.

Allegretti was the starting left guard last season after signing in free agency. His performances were subpar, and he was replaced by Brandon Coleman after the Commanders traded for five-time Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil this offseason.

All hope was not lost with Allegretti. Cosmi's injury forced Washington to shift the former Illinois mauler to the right-hand side, but he was benched in favor of Andrew Wylie after just two games. He's got one year remaining on his deal in 2026; however, the chances of him seeing that out are slim.

The Commanders will pay $3.53 million in dead money while saving $3.64 million by cutting Allegretti early. That seems like a foregone conclusion.

Jonathan Jones - Commanders CB

The Commanders' cornerback room was expected to be a strength heading into the 2025 season. There have been a few bright spots — second-round rookie Trey Amos is one of them — but it's not been good enough overall.

Some big decisions are coming if the same trend continues. Adam Peters probably didn't think he'd have to address this position group with such urgency next spring, but that's precisely what he's facing. And one veteran who's not made a lasting contribution so far has a lot of hard work ahead to secure an extended stay.

Jonathan Jones was an intriguing pickup this offseason. He represented another experienced figure with Super Bowl-winning credentials, but poor form and injuries have not yet given the Commanders a return on their investment.

Jones is back in the lineup. Even so, it doesn't seem likely he'll get an extended stay when the time comes to determine his future.

Will Harris - Commanders S

The Commanders took a significant risk by letting defensive back Jeremy Chinn walk in 2025 free agency. He made an exceptional start to life in Washington, forming a productive partnership with Quan Martin at the safety spot and emphatically lending assistance at the second level. However, general manager Adam Peters didn't think he was worth what the Las Vegas Raiders were willing to pay.

Peters thought he could get the same production for cheaper, signing Will Harris to a two-year deal this offseason. That gamble didn't pay off, and it's also hurt Martin's ability to be impactful when most thought he'd be in the midst of a genuine breakout campaign by now.

Harris was inconsistent at best before getting hurt. There's a chance he might return once he gets healthy, but the $4 million in savings attached to his early departure could be better spent elsewhere.
