Commanders could sign Myles Bryant
Changes are coming to the Washington Commanders' cornerback room. Trey Amos and Mike Sainristil are the only two guaranteed to be back in 2026. Still, there is a real conundrum brewing with the 2024 second-round pick out of Michigan.
Sainristil is an opportunistic defensive back. He gained several turnovers last season, but he also gave up too many explosive plays. What defensive coordinator Daronte Jones needs to figure out is whether his skills are best suited to the boundary or the nickel within his schematic concepts.
If Jones opts to make Sainristil an outside option, the Commanders need a dependable nickel corner capable of making things happen. Myles Bryant isn't a household name, but he's got tons of experience, can operate almost anywhere in the secondary, and has the physical approach that should fit into Washington's plans.
Commanders could sign Leo Chenal
Washington needs more at the linebacker position. Daronte Jones sees Frankie Luvu as a big piece of the puzzle, and Jordan Magee should also have a bigger role to play after flashing in Year 2 of his professional career. But with future Pro Football Hall of Fame enforcer Bobby Wagner's future with the club in doubt, the Commanders cannot leave anything to chance.
The Commanders could go down the draft route with a dynamic prospect. Sonny Styles' exceptional display of athleticism at the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine cemented his credentials, and he'll be firmly on the radar. If Washington opts for a little more experience, Leo Chenal could enter the equation.
Chenal's been a highly consistent performer on the Kansas City Chiefs' rotation throughout his career. He seems ready for more significant responsibilities, and at 25, this is the sort of ascending presence the Commanders should be looking for.
Commanders could sign Kingsley Enagbare
The Commanders need to boost their pass rush. Adam Peters admitted as much during his end-of-season media availability, and the front office leader wants to be aggressive in his pursuit of the right pieces. Even so, one big splash won't be enough for new defensive coordinator Daronte Jones.
Washington needs a genuine game-wrecker either in free agency or the draft. They also need to enhance depth with rotational options who can make a difference when their numbers are called. Aside from Dorance Armstrong Jr., everyone else could be let go, so there would be no better time to completely revamp the unit.
Even though Kingsley Enagbare hasn't even achieved otherworldly sack numbers during his four seasons with the Green Bay Packers, he's a disruptive force when firing on all cylinders. It probably wouldn't be that expensive to see what he can do, either.
