Amik Robertson - Commanders CB

The Washington Commanders made veteran cornerback Amik Robertson a top free-agent target. Some fans and analysts were skeptical, pointing to his physical limitations as a factor that could hold him back in defensive coordinator Daronte Jones' new system.

They are all eating a slice of humble pie now.

Robertson has been nothing short of sensational this season. He's seized the CB1 role in Washington, taking on the biggest responsibility against some of the league's most prolific receivers. And to say he is thriving would be an understatement.

The former Louisiana Tech star leads the league in pass breakups. Officials have called Robertson for some questionable decisions over the last fortnight, including a marginal end-zone interception against the New York Giants. However, that doesn't detract from what an exceptional addition he's been over the last five weeks.

This follows on from Robertson's tone-setting summer.

He took a back seat with the Detroit Lions, but he wasted no time in assuming a prominent leadership role in Washington. Robertson is an inspirational presence who never backs down from a challenge, and if the same trend continues, the defensive back is well on track to becoming a cornerstone piece.

Robertson has far exceeded expectations. One could even make a strong argument that he's been Washington's best overall player this season.

Sam Cosmi - Commanders OL

Prolific right guard Sam Cosmi missed two games with a concussion and a throat injury. But when he's on the field, he performs like one of the league's best interior offensive linemen.

This isn't surprising, either.

Switching Cosmi from right tackle to right guard is one of the best moves previous head coach Ron Rivera made over his four years in Washington. He is a dominant pass protector and a crushing presence on running plays. His evolving leadership makes him a core locker room presence, and the Commanders recognized his importance by giving him a new deal before the 2024 campaign.

Cosmi is a cornerstone in every sense of the term. His 84.5 pass-blocking grade from Pro Football Focus ranks first among 75 qualifying guards. The Texas product's 80.8 overall grade ranks 10th. And even though these grades can be skewed, they fairly reflect the consistency he's shown.

Staying healthy is crucial now.

It's been a frustrating couple of years on the health front for Cosmi, stemming from his torn ACL during the 2024 playoffs. Keeping him on the field is imperative to the Commanders' chances, and though there are problems elsewhere on the offensive line, his partnership with Josh Conerly Jr. on the right-hand side has been rock solid.
