K'Lavon Chaisson - Commanders OLB
While the Washington Commanders' offense got the better of proceedings for the most part on Day 6, several defenders continue to stand out. And not for the first time at training camp, edge rusher K'Lavon Chaisson was one of them.
Chaisson could have gotten more long-term security from the New Orleans Saints in free agency, but he chose to bet on himself once again with the Commanders. He believes another strong campaign could bring a much bigger payday next spring, and the former LSU pass-rusher already looks capable of achieving that.
Those in attendance noted how Chaisson and fellow edge rusher Odafe Oweh are causing havoc. The explosiveness off the snap is night and day compared to anything Washington put out last season, and the system being installed by Daronte Jones is putting them in the best possible positions to thrive.

It's been an imposing start to life in Washington for Chaisson. He is a player reborn after looking down and out once upon a time. But the rocky start earlier in his career should ensure complacency will never become a factor.
Washington's defense looks faster and more explosive. And even when Dorance Armstrong Jr. gets back, Chaisson will still have a major role.
Drew Stevens - Commanders PK
The kicking competition is something fans and reporters are keeping a close eye on. Veteran Jake Moody is looking to retain his starting job, and he's done well over the offseason. However, the tide may have turned in favor of undrafted rookie Drew Stevens on Day 6 of training camp.
Stevens came into the Commanders after a standout college career with the Iowa Hawkeyes. He's got a booming leg with the accuracy to match, and for the first time this summer, Moody had difficulty keeping up.
According to those keeping score from the sidelines, Stevens was flawless in all five of his attempts, with a long of 56 yards. Moody missed two, from 49 and 56, which will not have gone unnoticed by the coaching staff or general manager Adam Peters as part of their ongoing assessments.

So Moody has missed 3 in camp so far (missed from 48 earlier today). Stevens has missed 1.
It's still too close to call, but if Stevens performs well in the preseason, that might be enough to convince the Commanders.
Shining during attempts at camp is one thing. Doing it in a game-day setting in the NFL is another. Preseason might be a much more relaxed environment compared to the regular season. But for players fighting for their roster spots like Stevens, the pressure is always on.
That will be the ultimate measuring stick.
