The Washington Commanders gave rest days to several established starters expected to play a key role on Day 11 of training camp. It was a day after an intense, long padded practice. And there is also the small matter of clashing with the Miami Dolphins today (Wednesday) for their first joint practice of the summer.
Getting the chance to hit someone that isn't your own teammate is something every player relishes at this time of year.
The intensity rises. It's an opportunity to really compete, stand out, and build confidence before Washington's preseason opener against the Dolphins on Friday evening.
Head coach Dan Quinn and general manager Adam Peters will be keeping a close eye on developments. They are in constant assessment mode right now, and that will not change until final cuts are due. Even then, the Commanders will be monitoring the waiver wire or maybe even some potential trade scenarios that might emerge before Week 1 against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Excitement is building. The Commanders are still coming to terms with left tackle Laremy Tunsil's injury, but everything is proceeding almost as planned aside from that. And even though the tempo was notably lower throughout this session, it was still a good chance to stand out.

Jayden Daniels - Commanders QB
As some have pointed out in recent days, Jayden Daniels has entered the surgical phase of training camp. Day 11 had a little more of a relaxed feel, but the quarterback was still delivering with supreme conviction before the Dolphins come to town for joint practice.
Daniels was threading the needle. His confidence within the system is growing, and the swagger has returned. There is an aura around the LSU product that's hard not to love, and he looks to have the steely determination needed to bounce back.
The Commanders need Daniels to be fit and firing on all cylinders throughout the season, especially considering they won't have Tunsil for most, if not all, of the campaign. It's a responsibility he's taking seriously, and the added incentive of silencing some increasing doubters is all the motivation he needs.
Nobody will be looking forward to joint practice more than Daniels. It's a chance to strike a blow and remind the world why he was considered among the elite quarterbacks as a rookie. Based on the way he's approached camp, fans should expect the signal-caller to put on a show against a team expected to struggle this season.
