Brian Robinson Jr. - Commanders RB
There is one area where fans are expecting to see some movement.
Adam Peters stood pat at the running back spot over free agency. It would be highly disappointing if the Washington Commanders continued this trend when the 2025 NFL Draft rolls around.
This is a deep group of college prospects looking to take their chances at the next level. The Commanders have reportedly had several productive prospects on their radar during Peters' comprehensive pre-draft assessments this spring. Whether that results in Washington bringing one into the fold is anyone's guess, but that's the consensus among fans and analysts alike.
If the Commanders added another running back early in the draft, Brian Robinson Jr. could be impacted more than anybody. The former third-round pick out of Alabama is heading into the final year of his deal with no guarantees regarding his status beyond 2025. Peters is always thinking two steps ahead, so he'll be coming up with potential long-term options if the incumbent starter cannot make the required strides.
Robinson's hard, physical running to start the campaign eventually took its toll down the stretch. He's not the most dynamic runner, although he's improving in that regard. Unfortunately for the backfield threat, the Commanders aren't going to wait around to see if he can improve further.
Noah Brown - Commanders WR
The Commanders have a decent-looking wide receiver unit heading into the draft. Trading for Deebo Samuel Sr. to form a potentially prolific partnership with Terry McLaurin is a big reason why.
Adam Peters still believes enough in Samuel's capabilities. The Commanders sent a fifth-round pick to the San Francisco 49ers, which could be a potential steal if he returns to his old form. McLaurin's presence will help greatly, taking away the primary attention of opposing coverage schemes and giving the former second-round pick opportunities in open space.
Luke McCaffrey should improve with another offseason to develop. Michael Gallup came out of retirement to help, but he's an unknown quantity after a season away from the gridiron. K.J. Osborn was re-signed. So too was Noah Brown, who penned a one-year deal to see if his encouraging contribution in 2024 could become something more.
Brown's internal issue dented his progress when momentum was starting to build last season. He's getting a chance to stake his claim again, but that won't stop Peters from drafting another wide receiver with similar physical attributes.
The Commanders won't send Brown to the fringes entirely. But if Peters can find an explosive deep threat to complement what McLaurin and Samuel bring to the table, his role is likely to diminish.
