Julian Good-Jones - Commanders OL
Head coach Dan Quinn admitted that the Washington Commanders have some problems to solve at center. Releasing Tyler Biadasz and doing almost nothing to replace him was a bold gamble to make. It's already coming back to haunt Adam Peters, so more drastic action may be required to ensure no momentum is lost.
With Nick Allegretti once again sitting out versus the Detroit Lions as he continues his long recovery from a calf strain, the Commanders turned to Julian Good-Jones on the first drive with Washington's starting unit. To say it did not go well would be an understatement.
Good-Jones is shaky. Either he doesn't make the correct reads pre-snap, or he just doesn't have the football IQ to spot even the simplest stunts or shifts. This is a big problem, and the Commanders need a better backup plan if Allegretti is forced to miss time.
While the Commanders aren't exactly blessed with high-quality depth along the interior of the offensive line, it's getting harder to justify Good-Jones sticking around.

Quan Martin - Commanders DB
The Commanders had a big decision to make with Quan Martin this offseason. His projected breakout campaign in 2025 couldn't have gone much worse, leaving his future in serious doubt with a new defensive coordinator coming into the fold.
Daronte Jones could have easily cast Martin aside. Instead, he saw a promising player who could be salvaged with better teaching and a more creative scheme. While it's still early days, this fresh set of ideas is having the desired effect.
Martin looks much more accomplished, whether that's as a coverage safety or even operating as a nickel cornerback. Confidence is growing, and securing an interception against the Lions represented another positive step in the right direction.

Getting it done when things matter more remains the tipping point for Martin. But given his overall body of work this summer when hope was fading rapidly, the 2023 second-round pick out of Illinois will get his chance to silence the doubters.

It didn't take long for the finger-pointing to begin on social media around Lions quarterback Joshua Dobbs fooling almost anyone to secure a 50-yard touchdown run. Rookie linebacker Sonny Styles took even more unfair criticism, but he was not at fault upon further examination of the game film.
Joshua Josephs bit too hard and lost contain on the edge. And there was no support on the back end after veteran safety Will Harris inexplicably over-committed the other way to give the signal-caller an unchallenged run into the end zone.
Harris' time in Washington hasn't gone according to plan. Injuries and poor performance levels last season left a bitter taste in the mouth. The Commanders gave him another chance to turn the tide this offseason, but it's starting to look like a parting of the ways might be more beneficial for both parties.
Washington may keep Harris around for his experience, but that is no longer a guarantee.
