Loser No. 1

Austin Seibert - PK

A common theme over the first wave of free agency became apparent early on. The Washington Commanders were keen to take care of their free agents, signing most back to extensions in the hope this continuity could help bring similar good fortune to the franchise.

This comes with risk, of course. The Commanders won't be a surprise teams don't see coming next season. Opposing clubs will be better prepared, especially considering so many are returning to the fold.

There's still for things to change, but the fact Austin Seibert hasn't been extended as yet raises alarm bells from the kicker's perspective. It was a blistering start to his Washington career, breaking the franchise record for field goals made in Week 2 against the New York Giants with seven. His performances were outstanding in the weeks after. Unfortunately, this newfound momentum came screeching to a halt with injury.

Seibert damaged his hamstring and was forced to miss time. The Commanders signed Zane Gonzalez, who performed well enough to force the Oklahoma product back sooner than expected.

He never looked right against the Dallas Cowboys and went to injured reserve soon after. Gonzalez took over full-time starting duties and has been rewarded with another one-year deal. Seibert might also come back at some stage, but the Commanders are also looking for a better alternative reading between the lines.

Winner No. 2

Jayden Daniels - Commanders QB

Jayden Daniels is the franchise quarterback Washington fans had been dreaming of for years. This was also recognized by general manager Adam Peters, who's doing everything possible to surround the dynamic signal-caller with everything needed to thrive.

Daniels cannot be anything other than delighted with how Peters has molded the squad. They traded for wide receiver Deebo Samuel Sr., which cost nothing more than a fifth-round selection to see if he could return to his All-Pro-caliber production. This also provides the No. 2 pick with a genuine one-two punch in the receiver room alongside Terry McLaurin.

If that wasn't enough, Daniels also has an elite left tackle after the Commanders secured Laremy Tunsil's services. He's one of the best pass-protectors around and still performing at an extremely high level. Having this security is only going to help the former LSU standout reach new heights in 2025.

Most of Daniels' productive pass-catchers from last season are back. These include veteran tight end Zach Ertz, who formed a strong connection to the Heisman Trophy winner and will be a major asset to depend upon next season.

With the prospect of another wideout or running back coming into the fold when the 2025 NFL Draft rolls around, Daniels must be thrilled about Washington's offseason approach to date.
