Commanders must neutralize Caleb Williams' support system

The Chicago Bears, despite some recent success, statistically remain one of the worst offenses in the NFL. Though they aren't a great passing team, their running game has thus far been worse.

They rank in the bottom 10 in rush yards per game. As stated before, the Washington Commanders are in the top three. If they can get the ground game going and stop the run themselves, this will put the cards in Caleb Williams' hands.

If the run game for the Bears gets going, that will open up things for Williams. Neutralizing his support system and putting the game on his rookie shoulders is the best chance of restricting the No. 1 pick.

Jonathan Allen's absence last week was not missed. It was only the Carolina Panthers, but this team can stuff the run even without him. Drafting Johnny Newton is yet another check mark for Adam Peters. Phidarian Mathis is also realizing his potential at long last to further raise encouragement.

Williams could eventually become a fabulous player, but he remains inexperienced at the pro level. The best way to stop the Bears this weekend is for the coaches to devise a game plan to stop the run game first and see what the signal-caller does without it.

One more strong appearance by the Commanders' defense could carry them in this game if they are without their star quarterback. This is a statement game for Joe Whitt Jr.'s unit. They must plan correctly and execute effectively.

It's time to see this team pull one out against a winning franchise, even if they don't have the benefit of Daniels to call upon. It will start by stopping the run. They've not been great in this regard overall, but Week 8 looks like a good time to change this narrative.

Daron Payne, anyone?
