The Washington Commanders find themselves in new territory. It's been a long time since the team was able to lose a game, drop to 4-2, and be disappointed. That alone signals a change.

While it does make the season a little more interesting for the rest to see what happens in Washington, it also makes the home matchup against the Carolina Panthers another must-win.

Despite the improvements and quick resurgence thus far from Adam Peters and Dan Quinn's new regime, the Commanders are still only a half-game up on the struggling Philadelphia Eagles. Things could still flip very quickly. If the Commanders don't keep their foot on the pedal and continue to improve, things could change overnight.

For that to not happen, especially in the light of the season-ending injury to long-term team leader Jonathan Allen, the team must keep up many of the positive things they have done. Quinn and his staff must also make some changes in other areas.

With this in mind, here are three changes the Commanders' coaching staff must consider in Week 7.

Commanders must return to the run

The Commanders got stuffed in the run game in Week 6. Jayden Daniels was also forced to stay in the pocket. That's not a recipe for success moving forward.

Washington needs to get back to what they do best - run the football. Over the first five weeks of the season, there was hardly a more productive rushing team than the Commanders. Kliff Kingsbury must impose the team's ground game versus an under-strength Panthers' defensive front.

For the Commanders to get back on track and center on their identity, they need to be more patient with the run game. If they can get the running game going once more this week, look for them to emerge victorious.
