Best, worst, and realistic scenarios for every Commanders 2023 draft pick
By Jonathan Eig
Braeden Daniels – Commanders OL
Realistic: Braeden Daniels beats out either Chris Paul or Saahdiq Charles for a Washington Commanders roster spot. Plays 200 combined snaps on offense and special teams.
Best case: Takes over as a starting guard in the second half of the season and the Commanders scoring offense soars from 21 points per game to 24.
Worst case: Daniels ends up being the second coming of Arie Kouandjio.
K.J. Henry – Commanders DE
Realistic: Fifth defensive end, active more than ten weeks, 120 snaps, and one sack.
Best case: For the player, if not for the team. Either Chase Young or Montez Sweat is traded before the season. K.J. Henry becomes part of the platoon that replaces him and finishes with five sacks.
Worst case: Practice squad. Virtually every player the Commanders have drafted in the Ron Rivera era at least makes the practice squad. It’s no sin. But given the trade-up, it would be a letdown.
Chris Rodriguez Jr. – Commanders RB
Realistic: Chris Rodriguez Jr. follows a similar path to Peyton Barber.
Best case: That really good Peyton Barber we saw in that one game against the Dallas Cowboys back in 2020. Only throw in half a touchdown per game.
Worst case: Peyton Barber, minus that one really good game against Dallas.
Andre Jones Jr. – Commanders DE/OLB
Realistic: Practice squad.
Best case: Andre Jones Jr. is on the active roster for half the season and makes one viral play in which he knocks someone’s helmet off on kick coverage.
Worst case: Jones applies to the Mississippi State MS program in Sports Administration this fall. Actually, if he got into that program, that would be a pretty good scenario for him. A promising career path with little chance of CTE.
Here’s hoping that all the Commanders’ draft picks – and all of you reading – have a 2023 season full of best-case scenarios.
