Logan Thomas – Commanders TE

Eric Bieniemy’s arrival came with speculation about which weapons he’d like from the collegiate level during the 2023 NFL Draft. While the skill position players look pretty strong, the play-caller could have used this opportunity to bang the table for specific prospects he felt might be a decent scheme fit within his system.

This bore more significance at the tight end position, which was crying out for consistency last season. However, the Commanders didn’t spend any draft capital on this group and just one playmaker came on board in the form of sixth-round running back Chris Rodriguez Jr.

It was a surprise, there’s no getting away from that. But it strengthens Logan Thomas‘ chances of becoming a main feature under Bieniemy’s expert guidance next season.

Thomas is facing competition from the likes of John Bates, Cole Turner, and Armani Rogers, but he’s the clear frontrunner to become the team’s No. 1 option currently. And if the former quarterback stays healthy, there’s a lot to like about his chances of bouncing back with Bieniemy leading the charge.

The Commanders are placing a lot of faith in their current tight ends. This is a major make-or-break campaign for Thomas, in particular, so firmly establishing himself as a trusted weapon for Bieniemy is the only way he’ll avoid getting cut in 2024.
