Commanders should ‘return home’ to RFK Stadium

One of the biggest priorities for the new ownership group led by Josh Harris once their purchase of the Washington Commanders is confirmed centers on the stadium. FedEx Field is crumbling and no longer fit for purpose, which means either significant investment in the current site or looking elsewhere for a long-term solution.

When speaking to WUSA 9 Washington recently, Ward 5 councilman Kenyon McDuffie highlighted his desire for the Commanders to make their triumphant homecoming to RFK Stadium. Although this would be a complex rather than just a facility for football if the respected figure has his way.

"“I think we have a once-in-a-generation opportunity with the RFK site to re-imagine it. I don’t think it needs to be just a football stadium there. I think it should be a broader conversation.”"

This is a sentiment not shared by others. RFK Stadium is owned by the federal government, so there could be many legislative and financial stumbling blocks to overcome if this is the direction Harris and his group want to go.
