What critical observations can we take from the Washington Commanders heading into a pivotal 2023 NFL Draft for the franchise?

After a seemingly neverending stream of rumors, speculation, and everything in between, NFL Draft week has finally arrived. And for the Washington Commanders, it’s one of the most fascinating selection weekends in recent memory.

At least from the outside looking in, there is plenty riding on this year’s draft for those in power. The roster looks good aside from one or two problem positions, so getting their next batch of college recruits right is the best possible way to ensure genuine progress when competitive action resumes.

Ron Rivera and his team have drafted well since he came into the fold. Anything less this time around will cast more doubt on his long-term future with the franchise heading into Year 4 of his reign.

With that being said, here are three critical Commanders’ observations ahead of the 2023 NFL Draft.

Commanders have everything on the table

After some decent-looking signings in free agency, the Washington Commanders are approaching the 2023 NFL Draft with a sense of freedom. Ron Rivera plans to play the board according to the best prospect available at the time, even if this might not be the wisest move initially given some crucial needs at cornerback and the offensive line.

Rivera clearly feels the roster is in a good place for a potential luxury or two along the way. But almost everything remains on the table – including trading up or down depending on which prospects are available at any given stage.
