Eric Bieniemy on Commanders OL signings
It’s no secret that Eric Bieniemy is having a huge influence on the Washington Commanders’ approach to recruitment on offense since his eye-popping move from the Kansas City Chiefs. The franchise didn’t have much financial flexibility with the ownership in flux, but they did manage to strengthen some areas of need in pursuit of progress.
The offensive line was in dire need of reinforcements. Thankfully, this was also recognized by influential figures within the organization, who signed Nick Gates and Andrew Wylie with what little money became available when the legal tampering period began.
Bieniemy recently spoke to the team’s website about the two signings, highlighting their experience and versatility as primary reasons they were targeted. Wylie’s previous working relationship with the coach is something else that could smooth his off-season transition.
"“They bring a tremendous amount of experience. That’s huge, and that’s important.”One thing I love about Andrew, not only does he bring experience from a player’s point of view, but he also brings some resilience that can help young players that are trying to develop and become the players that they want to be. He can help them to grow as well.”"
While more is needed and could arrive via the 2023 NFL Draft, the Commanders’ brass recently stated they feel comfortable enough to leave nothing off the table over the weekend. And they must give Bieniemy everything needed to thrive.
