Demand for Dan Snyder ahead of Commanders sale
It shouldn’t be much longer before Dan Snyder officially departs the Washington Commanders for good. His two-decade reign as an NFL owner is ending in disgrace, even if there is considerable profit attached to the $6.05 billion agreement after initially buying the franchise for $800 million.
The sale news has been unanimously well received. Even if Snyder still faces investigations and allegations on his way out of the door.
While there is reportedly an indemnification clause in Snyder’s agreement with Harris, attorneys Lisa Banks and Debra Kantz wrote to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell highlighting their desire for something similar to prevent the departing owner from action against those who’ve alleged wrongdoing under his leadership.
"“We understand that the League and other team owners must review and approve the terms of any sale between Mr.Snyder and the new ownership group. In doing so, we request that you and the NFL owners demand that the sale agreement includes a contractual provision that forbids Mr.Snyder from initiating ligation against any of the individuals who participated in the various investigations into the team, including but not limited to our 40+ clients.”"
The letter obtained by The Hill adds that Snyder is notorious for being “vindictive”. So adding such a demand would prevent any further trauma for the dozens who spoke out against working conditions and other matters associated with the Commanders.
"“Although we are confident that any such litigation by Mr. Snyder would be meritless — as the women and men involved in the investigations did nothing more than accurately and honestly share their experiences working for the team.”"
There is an obvious need to stop this situation from getting messier in the coming weeks. The NFL has yet to force the issue with Snyder, so it remains to be seen whether or not this request is granted, even if it needs to be.
