Dan Snyder’s final Commanders’ clause?

While there is jubilation surrounding Dan Snyder‘s pending departure from the Washington Commanders, the billionaire is unlikely to go away without his own set of demands. Considering the numerous investigations and allegations attached, this could be his final and most important clause before riding off into the sunset with more than $6 billion.

According to Ben Standig and Daniel Kaplan of The Athletic, documents sent to the NFL for approval also included an intent to partly indemnify Snyder from any further repercussions. Something that won’t go down well with those who’ve suffered so much throughout his disastrous tenure.

"The provision would partially protect Snyder from legal liability based on the outcomes of the probes. The indemnification provision would be between Harris and Snyder, not the league. Snyder has been seeking that cover from both the buyer and the league. The developments emerge as the league awaits the Mary Jo White report on investigations into whether Snyder harassed a female employee, and if the team hid revenue from the other 31 clubs."

This is an agreement between Josh Harris and Snyder and has nothing to do with the league. Whether it’s something they’ll agree to remains to be seen, but it cannot be ruled out given how desperate they are for a fresh start.

The report adds that Snyder has not been in direct communication with the NFL, which is unsurprising considering the disgrace he’s brought to the league. If this is the final clause that removes this complication once and for all, so be it – but it’s going to get a mixed reaction at best.
