4 Relative Athletic Score gods the Commanders could draft in 2023

Commanders could draft Jack Campbell
- Linebacker | Iowa Hawkeyes
- Relative Athletic Score – 9.98/10
The Washington Commanders also need to find another linebacker to put alongside Jamin Davis and Cody Barton at some stage during the 2023 NFL Draft. Depending on how things play out early, there could be some enticing prospects early on Day 2 given the positional importance – or lack thereof – at the second-level interior.
Although it would be a surprise if Jack Campbell was around by the time Washington went on the clock at No. 47 overall, it’s a hard proposition to turn down in this scenario. The former Iowa star is intelligent with athleticism to burn, which is reflected in an exceptional 9.98 RAS score following some outstanding testing stats at the NFL Scouting Combine.
As the RAS score dictates, Campbell is a sideline-to-sideline presence behind the defensive front. He recognizes plays developing well and reacts with conviction, which is something the Commanders were sorely lacking at times during the 2022 season.
Campbell is 6-foot-5 and plays just as physically. He was a relentless tackling force after transferring to defense from the tight end spot, with the player’s route running experience smoothing his transition to the coverage aspect of playing the position.
One knock on Campbell comes as a pass-rusher, where he lacks the moves and functional strength to get into the backfield consistently. However, this might improve once he receives NFL-caliber coaching.
