4 Relative Athletic Score gods the Commanders could draft in 2023
By Dean Jones
Commanders could draft Jon Gaines II
- Offensive Line | UCLA Bruins
- Relative Athletic Score – 9.95/10
Another area where the Washington Commanders need help is the offensive line. Andrew Wylie and Nick Gates might be decent enough free-agent signings, but others on the depth chart come into the 2023 campaign with more questions than answers about their future.
This bears special significance on the interior. One could make a case for both guard positions being up for grabs, although the prospect of moving Sam Cosmi to the right next to Wylie does come with a level of intrigue.
If the Commanders decide more is needed – and they should – then this is a deep class for interior linemen that those in power must take advantage of. He might not be the biggest name, but Jon Gaines II did his chances no harm at all throughout the assessment stage to attain a phenomenal 9.95 RAS score along the way.
Gaines’ athleticism comes across when putting on the game film. His agility and size are matched by encouraging technical prowess that could result in a prominent role somewhere depending on how the prospect’s initial transition goes.
There are some conditioning concerns against more imposing defensive linemen at the next level. Gaines must also display more aggressiveness in the run game to further bolster his hopes of immediate involvement.
