5 offensive tackles the Commanders could select in the 2023 NFL Draft

Commanders could draft Broderick Jones
If there was one projected top-15 selection that might fall into the Washington Commanders’ lap at No. 16 overall, then Broderick Jones could be the guy. That does not detract from what an outstanding prospect the lineman is, however.
Jones was nothing short of phenomenal for the Georgia Bulldogs in 2022 en route to a second-straight national championship, where he failed to give up a single sack. He also had the benefit of facing some projected first-round picks daily during practice, with the likes of Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith both expected to be taken on Day 1 at some stage.
The prospect’s strengths are predicated on leverage. Jones has powerful hands and a grip that’s incredibly difficult to remove. This creates movement on running downs and also comes with elite pass-protection capabilities for good measure.
Jones’ speed is extraordinary. His explosiveness to the initial contact point is first-class, there is more than enough power to hold firm from a base standpoint, and the offensive tackle also finishes plays with conviction at any given chance.
While some deem Jones as a little rough around the edges having transitioned to the tackle spot in college, further development could leave the Commanders with a truly dominant edge protector. The franchise presence they’ve been desperately seeking since the Trent Williams trade.
