3 late-round luxury prospects the Commanders could draft in 2023

Commanders could draft Mohamoud Diabate
- Linebacker | Utah Utes
The Washington Commanders could use some extra explosiveness at the defensive second level in 2023. Only Jamin Davis and the recently acquired Cody Braton look like dependable options currently unless one of the rotational pieces steps up, so looking at every option on all three days of the upcoming draft would be wise.
If the Commanders want a little more bang for their buck, Mohamoud Diabate is a prospect of note. Someone that has the straight-line speed and quick-twitch traits to become a productive outside linebacker with a smooth transition.
Diabate enjoyed a productive four-year college career at both Florida and Utah, racking up 228 tackles, 24 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks, and four forced fumbles. His natural instincts and immediate burst make him a huge asset on running plays, which is coupled with violent hands and relentless pursuit in obvious pass-rushing situations.
If there was one thing threatening to hold Diabate back in the pros, it’s size. The prospect is a little on the small side and looks to have already filled out his frame, so it remains to be seen whether he can cope with the increased physicality on an every-down basis.
With that being said, Diabate represents a low-risk, high-reward option on Day 3 for the Commanders. Something that would enhance their linebacker depth possibilities at the very worst.
